Description

ZEAL MONACHORUM ZEAL MONACHORUM
SS 70 SW
4/101
- Memorial stone approximately
8 metres south of aisle of Church
of St Peter
GV II

Memorial stone marking the position of the human bones removed from inside the
church in 1913. The stone was itself dug up in 1913 and may be an Anglo-Saxon altar
stone. Granite. A massive upright slab now standing appriximately 1.5 metres high
but is actually approximately 3.5 metres long. It is roughly finished and some
indentations may be interpreted as crosses. They are said to be five altogether
which are thought by some to represent the 5 wounds of Christ.
