Formerly Free School 1725-6 2 storeys, brick on projecting plinth, wide brick
band at 1st floor level, narrow brick string at 1st floor cill level, brick
moulded and modillioned eaves cornice, hipped old tile roof. The centre projecting
bay consists of a semi-circular headed central window on the 1st floor flanked
by semi-circular headed brick niches, all linked together by a brick string
at the springing of the arches. On the ground floor there is a central 6-panelled
door with semi-circular radiating fanlight over in brick arch with triple stone
key block. The door is flanked by 2 arched windows connected together by a
brick string. A moulded stone hood is placed on the wide 1st floor band over
this door, consisting of pediment and cornice supported on carved scroll brackets
with the bed mould breaking forward round the brackets and the central key block.
The flanking wings on this elevation have 2 windows on each floor.
Elevation to St Albans Street. The same materials are used. A symmetrical
composition with a central bay, 2 chimney stacks connected by a flying brick
arch and with stone key block and brick springers. The main cornice breaks
forward and has a pediment over. There is a square panel on the 1st floor and
a tall arched panel on the ground floor. The flanking bays have a square panel
on each floor.
Elevation to the Churchyard. Same general design and materials.
4 windows and flanking panels on the 1st floor. 5 similar windows and tall
7-panelled door to the left hand of centre on ground floor. The top panel of
the door is horizontal and divided into 3 panes and glazed.
Nos 3 to 7 (odd) and The Masonic Hall form a group.
