House. c1775 for Lord Scarborough; mid C19 front porch, rear extension and
internal alterations. Red brick in Flemish bond with scored jointing.
Ashlar dressings to porch. Pantile roof. L-shaped on plan: 2-room central
entrance hall front with rear kitchen wing and extension. 2 storeys with
attic, 5 bays; symmetrical. Part-glazed panelled door beneath lintel in
enclosed porch with plinth and embattled parapet. 12-pane sashes in flush
wooden architraves, with keyed stucco cambered arches and projecting cills.
Moulded and finely-dentilled brick eaves cornice. Stone-coped gables with
shaped kneelers. End stacks. Gable-ends have pointed attic sashes with
Gothick glazing. Right return has a 3-light casement and unequal sash, both
with small panes, and a 12-pane sliding casement, all beneath segmental
brick arches. Interior: original open well stairs with ramped and wreathed
handrail and plain balusters; fielded-panel doors; C19 plasterwork and
chimney pieces.
