2 houses sharing a single facade. Early C18 reworking of earlier, probably
C17, structure. Most of front elevation brickwork is of vitrified bricks laid
in header bond, with red brick dressings. Thought to contain a timber framed
core. Steep pitched C20 tile 2-span roof. 2 storeys and attics. Ground floor
of No 2 reworked late C19 and converted to shop. Double fronted shop-front to
RH, reworked C20, with part-glazed door in central splayed recess. To LH are
2 plain sash windows in ashlar surrounds, each with a different ornamental
apron. These flank an Edward VII enamel post box set into the wall.
Surrounding brickwork is C19. No. 4 ground floor retains sash window with
glazing bars, moulded wood case almost flush with wall, under gauged brick
flat arch. To R of this is doorway reached by flight of steps. 4 flush-panel
door surmounted by rectanagular fanlight, in simple moulded architrave.
Moulded flat hood on ornamental cut brackets. Between this and no. 2 is
square headed carriage arch with plain timber surround. First floor has 8
sash windows arranged 2:1:5. Central window of the 5 is blind. All others
have glazing bars and moulded cases almost flush with wall. All have gauged
brick flat heads, 3 of which have scallop decoration cut into them. 2 RH
sashes retain C19 wood valances. Attic has 4 hipped dormers with 2-light
casements with glazing bars. Heavy moulded brick eaves cornice. Variety of
brick ridge and gable end chimney stacks.
