Farmhouse with attached cottage and outbuildings. Original house c1620 (Hutchins I)
altered and enlarged in mid C19, in C17 style. Rubble stone walls, stone slate
roofs with coped gables in front range. Stone stacks. Part 2-storeys, part 2-storey
and attics. Courtyard plan. Main front range C19. Coped gabled porch with shaped
kneelers. Moulded pointed arched doorway has hoodmould with foliated stops.
Panelled door. Above porch a raised gable with shaped kneelers. Ground floor has
two 3-light stone mullioned windows with hoodmoulds and casements with centre
horizontal glazing bar. First floor has 2 similar, end one similar, 2-light
window. Similar 2-light window to attic - in centre gable. Rear wing at
right end - the original C17 house, of similar construction, has tall inserted
C19 dormers. 2 C17 4-centred arched doorways, and some stone mullioned windows
at rear. This wing of lobby entrance plan, with central plastered stack. Internally,
this wing has one large open fireplace, part built up, and one chamfered ceiling beam.
Cut string stair with wreathed handrail in C19 range. Attached at rear, a dairyman's
cottage and outbuildings, surrounding the courtyard. This range has rubble stone
walls, stone slate roof, plastered stack. 2 storeys. Stone steps to upper floor.
Left end section used as garage and store. Outer elevation of Dairy Cottage has
2 ledged doors. 2 casements with glazing bars on ground floor and one on first
floor. Projecting single-storey range has slate rcof and brick stack. (RCHM
