2-storey range across the north end of the Library range. C15 hall, probably
the hall of the Abbot's lodging [now incorporated into the modern chapel];
rebuilt late C12 or early C13 undercroft. Hall roof of C15 style. 2 bays
added in 1855 by R C Carpenter and Benjamin Ingelow to give a north aisle.
First War Memorial extension of 1922 at the west end by Reginald Blomfield.
Exterior to north aisle [work of R H Carpenter and Benjamin Ingelow] has
2-centred windows with tracery above; giant buttresses; cloister openings
below; the latter continue northwards from west corner to form a west cloister
walk with similar openings. First War Memorial built above southernmost
bay of west cloister walk. 1 window faces east, in north facing gable,
2 windows. South-west end of Chapel faces on to Abbey Road; lofty pointed
window of 5-lights with dripmould and tracery. Graded I only on account
of its containing medieval remains of the Abbey of Sherborne.
The following buildings of Sherborne School surround the greens immediately
to the north of the Abbey Church of St Mary and form a group with themselves
and with the Abbey Church of St Mary.
