2/45 Strand Cottage
GV II
Cottage. Probably late C17 or C18, extended in C19. Cob; front wall rebuilt in
slate rubble. Dry slate roof, gabled at right hand end and hipped at left end;
crested ridge tiles. Large stack at right hand gable end with rendered shaft
heightened in brick. 2-room plan with central entrance. Outshut was added at
the back, probably in C19. 2 storeys. Almost symmetrical 2-window south front,
C20 2-light casements with glazing bars timber lintels and slate cills; the ground
floor right hand window has small panes and granite lintel. Central doorway with
C18 2-panel door and C20 brick porch. Across the back a single storey outshut
with a slate lean to roof. At the right hand (east) end C20 corrugated iron sheet
outbuilding. Interior:'not inspected but plank partition between rooms, light
scantling joists and large fireplace were observed. There is probably a newel
staircase beside the large stack at the east end.
