Small house with integral stable with hay loft, now part of house. C18. Painted cob
walls over rubble plinth (plinth rises higher at left-hand end where the house is on
higher ground). Wheat reed thatched roof (covered in old corrugated black iron
sheeting). Brick chimneys at either end of the house. Half-hipped end to former
stable on the right.
Plan: 2 room plan house (now 1 room) with lobby entrance between originally. Both
rooms have enormous (partly blocked) fireplace breasts. There is now a doorway
leading from the right-hand room into the former stable on the far right. Present
stair is in a C20 stair projection at the rear.
Exterior: 2 storeys. Long unspoiled front sloping down to the right. Overall 3
window south front with symmetrical 2 window front of house on the left and one
window front of former stable on the right. House has central doorway with old 4-
panel door. Over the doorway is a fire insurance plaque inscribed: 'Fire and Life
Insurace Institution'. Window left of doorway is circa early C19 or original 12-pane
casement; the other windows are circa late C19 4-pane casements.
Interior: Has original chamfered ceiling beams. First floor and roof structure not
inspected but probably original.
