1/19 The Smithery

GV II

Small house. Datestone 1837 with initials WRP over doorway. Shale rubble with
granite quoins and dressings, brick voussoirs and hipped scantle slate roof with
brick and chimneys. Double depth plan with symmetrical front. 2 storeys, 3
windows. Central semi-circular gauged brick arch with projecting granite keystone.
Door was 6-panelled but top panels replaced to plain fanlight. All front windows
are 16-paned sashes without horns in slightly arched openings with projecting
granite keystones. Rear elevation has door nearer to one side and stair window
between floors. Flanking 16-paned casements to ground and first floors have lift-
off hinges. Interior is said to be little altered and unmodernised.
