Trussel Bridge
II
Road bridge over tributary of east Looe River. Circa early C19. Rubblestone. Round
arch with dressed stone voussoirs and projecting keystone. Rubblestones walls
continuing to form parpets with moulded granite copings. Continuing on east, later
bridge over Liskeard and Caradon Railway and Liskeard and Looe Union canal.
In 1825 the Liskeard and Looe Union canal was authorised for agricultural purposes,
to link Liskeard with tidal water at Looe. As canal traffic expanded, the canal was
replaced by the Liskeard and Caradon Railway, authorised by act of 1843 and opened in
1846. In 1909 the railway became part of the Great Western Railway.
