GV II

House. C17 origins, much altered in the C19. Mixed rubble with hipped slate roof.
Central entry single depth house with projecting stair at rear. Filled in to the
left in the wid-cl9 and to the right in the C20 in red brick. Two storey, 3 window
front. Ground floor has a central gabled trellis porch and 20th century glazed
door, to left is a paired 12 pane sash with a paired 8 pane sash above. Other
windows are single sashes. All are replacements. Hipped roof with over-hanging
eaves. Front right gable stack. Rear lateral stack with oven to left. Side
elevation has a paired 4 pane sash in segmental head to ground floor and paired 6
pane above. Interior: largely altered but retains winder stair and some early C18
doors with HL hinges. Bay Cottage stands within the sometime kitchen garden at
Mount Edgcumbe and may have been the head gardener's house. In the bedroom on the
first floor there was formerly a painted overmantel decorated with the Stuart Royal
Arms and the initials CR.
