LOFTUS STONE ROW, Skinningrove.

1/64 Nos. 9 to 12 consecutive.

Manor house,mid C17, possibly incorporating remains of medieval house.
Altered in C18 and C19 when re-fenestrated. Now 2 cottages at Nos. 9 and
10, and house over shop at Nos. 11 and 12. Dressed sandstone and coursed
sandstone rubble, with chamfered plinth. Clay pantile roofs, those on Nos.
11 and 12 renewed. Stone ridge and gable copings and moulded stone
kneelers. Right end stack rebuilt in brick. Roughly cruciform plan, Nos.
11/12 being "T" plan and Nos 9/10 forming north wing. 2½ storeys; 5-bay
east front. Bays 2 and 3: a projecting gable with mid C20 ground-floor shop
front. Renewed sashes with glazing bars on upper floors. Bay one has 2
blocked C17 windows with flat surrounds. 4th and 5th bays have paired
central 4-panel doors. Mid C20 casement in reduced C17 opening with remains
of flat surround at left on ground floor. Other windows 16-pane sashes.
Gabled half dormers with kneelers and sashes with glazing bars. Blocked
fire window at right end. Painted sills. End stacks. Returns and rear
show blocked windows and doorways of various dates. Single-storey rear
extension of Nos. 11/12 is not of special interest. Nos. 9 and 10
unoccupied and dilapidated at time of survey.
