Country house. C18, remodelled and extended early C19 and late
C20. Stucco with stucco detail; dry slate roofs, the roof of
the original house steep and with rendered end stacks, the
other roofs hipped and behind parapets; 5 roof dormers with
hornless sashes with glazing bars.
PLAN: overall H-shaped plan with original double-depth-plan
house to centre and flanking early C19 cross wing on the right
and C20 pastiche cross wing on the left.
EXTERIOR: 3 storeys plus attics plus 2-storey-plus-attic
wings; 2:5:3-window front. Original house with symmetrical
5-window front to centre with mid-floor string above ground
floor and moulded architraves to hornless sashes with glazing
bars; central distyle Tuscan porch and doorway with overlight
and pair of panelled doors. Flanking wings have quoin strips
dividing bays and similar sashes within moulded architraves
and sills on brackets. Rear of original house has original or
early C19 sashes with glazing bars and 2 original Venetian
windows. Right-hand return is a symmetrical 5-window front
with central enclosed porch with panelled pilasters and
dentilled cornice; round-arched doorway with fanlight;
mid-floor string and windows like those of the main front.
INTERIOR: not inspected but likely to be of interest.
