Arms of Whiddon (argent a chevron between three spearheads gules) & Whiddon impaling Southmeade (per fess wavy gules & ermine, an eagle displayed in chief or)

Francis Whiddon M.A. lieth here interr'd who was 32 years Minister of this Church, died Jan. 5th anno domini 1656 Aetatis 65. He was son of Francis Whiddon of Whiddon in Chagford, Esqr. and married Anne daughter of John Southmead of Wrey, gent. by whom he had 5 sons and 3 daughters of wch 5 lye here burried. The surviving are Francis Whiddon M.A. and minister, Anne wife of Robt. Snow M.A. and Margaret wife of Jno. Lydstone M.A.and minister of Morchard Bishop and St. Mellin in Cornwall. My judgement is with ye Lord & my work with my God….
