Tatlow Cottage

Cruck cottage. C15 with C18, C19 and C20 alterations. Cruck
timber frame on stone plinth, outer walls mostly rebuilt in red
brick with brick dressings, also remains of stone wall to ground
floor of south wall. Plain tile roof with central brick ridge
stack. Two storeys and two bays, originally with lobby entrance
plan. West elevation has small central fixed pane window in
semi-circular headed area of later brickwork, probably position
of original doorcase. To either side, C20 2-light glazing bar
casements, that to north with narrower cambered brick head over.
Above, two similar C20 casements and between the partial remains
of the timber frame. Immediately above the window, below the
eaves, is the original timber wall plate. North gable wall has
C20 porch added and east elevation has two storey C20 addition.
Interior has large inglenook fireplace to southern room with oak
panelled cupboard to side and C18 fireplace to northern room.
Staircase is C20. Upper rooms have exposed cruck truss to
central wall.
