House, early C16, altered in C18 and C19. Timber framed, plastered, roofed
with handmade red clay tiles. 4 bays aligned N-S with external chimney stacks
to N and W, aspect E. Rear wing from S bay with internal chimney stack at the
junction, and external chimney stack at end. Stair tower in the angle, and
rear extension from N bay, C18, forming an irregular half-H plan. 2 storeys.
Half-glazed door in tiled gabled porch, C19, 3 double-hung sash windows of 15
lights, early C19, and one C19 casement window of 6 lights. First floor, 4
similar windows and one early C18 sash window of 18 lights. Plain plaster band
on S part of front elevation, extending round S elevation. Roof hipped. The
interior has richly roll-moulded beams and joists, early C16, and other beams
chamfered with lamb's tongue stops. An internal chimney stack has been removed
from the second bay from the S end, leaving plain joists in this bay. C18 stair
of high quality, the posts fluted with carved Corinthian capitals, and twisted
balusters, complete. C18 pine panelling and folding internal shutters in S
ground floor rooms. Ground floor partition between N and next bay stripped,
revealing wide doorway with 4-centred head, original. RCHM 7.
