Built in 1634 by Sir John Dutton of Sherborne House for watching deer coursing. Dogs would chase the deer along the course with a finishing line opposite the Lodge. A banqueting hall is on the first floor opening onto the balcony. Guests would watch the sport from the balcony and the roof. A wide ditch at the end would allow the deer jump over to escape while the dogs were confined to the course. The building is influenced by the recently built Banqueting Hall in Whitehall (Inigo Jones 1621)
