Pair of semi-detached estate cottages. Early Cl9. Coursed
squared and dressed limestone. Stone slate roof. Three ashlar
stacks, two restored C20. Long rectangular plan. Symmetrical 1½
storey facade. Four half dormers to first floor with 2-light
stone-mullioned casements. Four 2-light stone-mullioned casements
with stopped hoods to ground floor. C19 plank door to No 41, C20
part-glazed door to No 42. Both doors with flat canopies with
moulded margins on moulded brackets. Gable-end and axial stacks,
set on plinths. Flat coping at gable ends and to dormers.
Moulded kneelers. Coursed squared and dressed limestone walls,
c2m in height at right angles to gable ends, linking No 41 to No 40
and No 42 to No 43. (Property of the National Trust).
