House. Probably early C18, altered mid-C19. Part timber-framed with painted
brick infill, refaced in painted brick, part painted rubble; stone tiled roof
laid in diminishing courses and brick end stacks with offsets. Two storeys.
Two bays. Framing exposed at north end. Three and a half rows of panels
from sill to original wall-plate plus an additional row above. Altered
collar and tie-beam truss with struts. East front elevation: windows are all
3-light C19 casements with cambered heads. Central entrance has a flat timber
canopy on shaped brackets, and a 6-panelled door. (Four panels are raised and
fielded). There are C19 wings to the rear of both bays. The house is situated
adjacent to Nos 10, 11 and 12 (qv) on the south side of Church Road. Included
for group value. (RCHM, III, p 54, item 20).
