Royal Arms of 1604 to 1648. The stained glass window was probably made up to match them in style. Nearby Stamford was not sacked during the Commonwealth, so these high quality Arms may have come to the church from a local stately home after the Civil War. The Stuart Royal Arms are, For England, 3 red lions passant on gold. For France, 3 gold fleurs de lys on blue. For Scotland, a red lion rampant on gold. For Ireland, a gold harp silver stringed on geeen. The restorer has used a light blue grey to represent blue and green, whose pigments often oxidised to darkness in the past. (Photo Aug 2007).
