Uploader's Comments

The shields are an unrecognised 'buck trippant' impaling Smith (azure a saltire argent between four martlets or) & Budockshyde (sable three lozenges in a fess between as many stags' heads cabossed argent) impaling Smith.

The Latin inscription reads 'Margeria quee suit filia Roberti Smith...ur..ma..mu Bri...gener uxor Phillippi Buttoxhead...ar..om Gallici...belles intestinis..sub Condeeo...litans peijtmus..Relicta obijt quarto Apprellis Dm 1579'.

Margery was a daughter of Robert Smith, one of leaders of the 1549 Prayer Book Rebellion; her husband was a first cousin of Walter Ralegh through his Champernowne mother.
