Ruined Parish Church of Southwood, C14 and later. Flint with stone and brick
dressings. West tower, nave and chancel. Rectangular tower with single light
west window with square chamfered stone head and brick reveals. Niche above
with cusped head of shaped brick. West single light sound hole with stone arch
and brick reveals. Single light belfry openings with splayed brick reveals,
and honeycomb brick infill. Brick parapet. Nave and chancel obscured by
vegetation. North doorway of brick with hollow chamfer moulding and hood mould.
South doorway has stone voussoirs, hollow chamfer moulding and hood mould.
Blocked niche to east of doorway. Remains of lancet, and two light Decorated
windows in nave and chancel. Tower arch with brick reveals. Building notable
for the evidence of wide scale use of brick in the C14. Ancient Monument, County
Number 278.
