Flight of 3 locks. 1770-1777. Dressed millstone grit walls
ramped up to lower 2 gates; steps on each side, steel
footbridges have replaced the single wooden bridge on
downstream side of each gate. Overflow on S side.
The canal between Leeds and Holmbridge, near Gargrave, was
opened in 1777; the Leeds and Liverpool Canal was completed in
1816.
