School in Forster Place

GV II

Former board school. Probably c1885 by Richard Adams. For the
Leeds School Board. Gothic Revival style. Red brick with
moulded and cut brick decoration and stone window and door
surrounds. 2 storeys to road, 3 to rear, 4 x 2 bays.
Entrance right: moulded stone lintel, in high pointed arch
with brick patterns in tympanum; transom and mullion windows,
segmental hoodmoulding above with brick decoration. Upper
floor: bays 1 and 3 gabled, with high moulded arches infilled
with patterned brick, moulded eaves cornice, gable copings,
ridge stacks, some truncated.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
Richard Adams built several large schools in the mid 1880s
(Quarry Mount, Whitehall Road, qv) and is here adding to his
earlier school, creating a prominent local landmark.
