GV II

Farm buildings. Late C18. Coursed gritstone and rubble, grey
slate and stone slate roofs. The range is composed of 3
buildings: at the S (left) end a 3-storey square pigeoncote
with probably a bull-house on ground floor; a 2-bay open cart
shelter centre and a 2-storey, 2-bay byre/stable with hayloft
over at the N (right) end.
Left: wide doorway with tri-stone and bird entrance to top
floor, centre; pyramid roof with restored glazed cupola. To
rear, a ground-floor doorway reduced to window with wooden
ventilator grille; blocked 1st-floor window and 2nd-floor low
doorway. Left return: blocked 1st-floor doorway, plain sill
and lintel.
Cart shed: dressed stone end walls, stone central pier
supporting wall plate, later blocking.
Byre/granary: built of rubble, the yard front overlaid by
later building, a small square window with timber lintel below
eaves, left, raised ridge stone for ventilation. Rear inserted
doorway, small square window below eaves; right return:
external steps to a low doorway with plain sill and lintel.
INTERIOR: pigeoncote ground floor has a chamfered cross-beam
and untrimmed joists; the upper stages reputed to have a brick
lining. Cart shed, 2 king-post trusses, the tie beams of
re-used timber.
The range is characteristic of the varied building types in an
unplanned C18 farmyard.
