Bust of John Scott, Scott's Almshouses

Bust of John Scott. c1896. Square gritstone stepped base,
plinth with fluted corner pilasters and brass plaque,
chamfered stone upper plinth surmounted by white marble bust
on moulded circular base. Mr Scott is shown almost life-size,
in contemporary dress. The brass plaque records the erection
of the bust in memory of the late John Scott Esq. by Samuel
Scott Stanley, date not legible.
John Scott, of Hunslet Road, made his will in 1891 which
stated that if he had not done so in his lifetime then ยป10,000
should be used by his trustees for the erection of 10
almshouses. The will was proved in 1894 and the almshouses
were approaching completion in 1898.
