Wall, gate piers and gate with
overthrow to Holmfield

GV II

Boundary wall with gateway to Holmfield. c1835. For J Calvert.
Coursed squared gritstone and ashlar, wrought-iron gate and
overthrow with lantern frame. Wall approx 100m long and 2m
high with rounded coping, the narrow pedestrian gateway about
mid-way along. Gate piers: monolithic, approx 2.5m high,
square with shallow round-arched insets on exposed faces,
stepped pyramid capstones. Attached overthrow: curved, with
scroll decoration and square lantern frame. Gate: Gothic
tracery style with bars, dog bars and bud finials.
