Monument to Charles Dickens and his family. c1870. Massive inscribed stone slab set within neo-Classical railings, with smaller early C20 slab repeating inscription placed on top. This commemorates Charles Dickens and his family.
HISTORICAL NOTE: of historical interest not only for its intimate association with the outstanding C19 English novelist (who is buried in Westminster Abbey), but that of his family. His sons were each named after a leading literary figure, including Walter Landor Dickens, Alfred Tennyson Dickens.
