Villa. c1850-54, by John Aughton. White-painted stucco, slate
roofs.
PLAN: irregular cruciform plan formed by single-depth main
range at right-angles to the street, with side wings close to
the front end.
EXTERIOR: 2 and 3 storeys; 3-window range. Almost symmetrical
composition with a projected 3-storey gabled centre flanked by
set-back 2-storey wings, plus a porch in the right-hand angle;
with first-floor sill bands and rusticated quoins to all 3
portions. The centre has a canted bay window at ground floor,
with pilasters, a dentilled and modilloned cornice surmounted
by ornamental cast-iron railings composed of intersecting
ovals with finials to the rail; 1/1 and 2/2 unhorned sashes.
On each upper floor an unhorned 2/2 sashed window with
shouldered architraves.
To the right is a rectangular flat-roofed porch which has
round-headed open arches to the front and the right, with
imposts and keystones, and other features like those of the
bay window (including the ornamental railings).
The side wings each have one unhorned 2/2 sashed window on
each floor, all with architraves like those of the centre.
Tall corniced chimneys to left side of main range and to rear
of wings.
The left gable wall of the left wing has a canted bay window
like that at the front.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
Forms group with No.2 to the right (qv) which is its reflected
pair.
