GV II

Presbyterian church, now United Reformed church. 1873-4;
altered 1931 by Irving & Mosscrip. Coursed rock-faced
sandstone rubble, slate roof.
EXTERIOR: the 3-stage tower, with angle-buttresses, corner
pinnacles and a tall broached spire, has a 2-centred arched
west doorway in a shallow steeply-gabled porch set between the
buttresses, with elaborate enrichment including 3 orders of
moulding with colonnettes, a multi-foil in the gable and
crocketed coping with a finial; a triple niche of sharply
pointed crocketed trefoils in the centre of the second stage;
pairs of 2-light louvred belfry windows with hoodmoulds; an
arcaded frieze and oversailing pierced parapet; and lucarnes
at 2 levels of the spire.
The flanking ends of the nave have moulded 2-centred arched
doorways and 2-centred arched 2-light windows above; and its
5-bay side walls have buttresses and large 2-centred arched
3-light windows with alternating forms of plate tracery.
INTERIOR: simple single vessel, with wooden and glazed arcaded
screen at west end, some panelling and furnishing at east end
in similar style, and canted ceiling with exposed beams.
