Amphitheatre at former Carmel College

(Former Amphitheatre at Carmel College)

GV
II
Amphitheatre. 1965 by Thomas Hancock, assistant designer John Toovey. Concrete slabs set on blue/grey engineering bricks. Fan-shaped, with central circular raised dias and projecting steps.

The amphitheatre forms a group with the adjoining synagogue, built in 1963 by the same architect. Its sunken, curved form complements the convex end and high, soaring nature of the synagogue.
