and attached railings
GV II
Terraced houses. 1786, refronted in the early C19. Stucco,
roofs of tiles, those to No.10 probably old.
EXTERIOR: 4 storeys over basement, with dormers in attic to
No.9. Ground floor decorated with banded rustication. Steps up
to round-arched entrance to No.9, framed by engaged Doric
columns with entablature and open pediment with dentil
cornice, panelled reveals, fanlight with decorative glazing
and panelled and studded door of original design; No.10 is of
a similar design but is flat-arched with overlight and
No.pediment; bracketed verandahs to first floor with ornate
brackets and railings, the support to the concave awning of
intricate trellis work on No.9; these were designed by CA
Busby in 1822-30. The upper floors on each house are broadly
the same but have been altered: on No.9 the second floor
windows have a segmental pediment to the centre, triangular
either side and architraves now simplified; bracketed sills to
the third floor with floating cornices; No.10 has sill bands
to the second and third floor and simplified architraves;
cornice and blocking course to both houses, 2 dormers to No.9;
stacks to party walls.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
Cast-iron railings to steps and area. No.9 has a plaque to
Charles Talleyrand who stayed there in 1831.
