Pair of houses. c1837 with later additions and alterations
including late C19 extension to left and mid C20 extension to
right. Builders, William Buddle Sr and Jr, for themselves.
Brick with painted stucco facades and Welsh slate roof.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys with attic to right, 6 first-floor
windows. Tuscan pilasters to ends and centre. First floor has
6/6 sashes throughout, in plain reveals and with sills. Ground
floor: central entrances to each house, 4 roll-edged and 2
steps to part-glazed doors with etched glass and elliptical
overlights with Gothic glazing in surrounds with fluted
pilasters. 2/2 sashes to outer bays otherwise canted bays with
horizontal rustication each with three 1/1 sashes, cornice to
left. To left bay ground and first floor are blind boxes. Wide
eaves, hipped roof, ridge and end stacks.
To left return a 2/2 sash with blind box. To rear a 6/6 sash
to No.19 and rectangular bay with stained glass to No.21.
INTERIOR: No.19 has staircase with stick balusters and
wreathed handrail.
HISTORICAL NOTE: it is said that the builders built these
houses to live in before commencing villas in Clarendon
Crescent (qv).
