GV II

House and attached railings. c1832, with later additions and
alterations including extension to rear. Pinkish-brown brick
with painted stucco front facade, concealed roof and cast-iron
balcony and railings.
EXTERIOR: 3 storeys with basement and attic, 2 first-floor
windows. Rustication to ground floor and basement. Ground
floor: entrance to left: 5 roll-edged steps to 4-panel,
part-glazed door with overlight, plain reveals, within
tetrastyle porch with 2 Tuscan and 2 Egyptian columns, double
frieze, cornice. Tripartite window has 1/1 between narrow 1/1
sashes, with rusticated flat arches and raised keystone.
First floor has tall 6/9 sashes with margin-lights; second
floor has two 6/6 sashes, all in plain reveals and with
moulded surrounds, those to second floor with sills. Basement
has part-glazed door and 4/8 sash in plain reveals with sill.
Frieze, cornice, blocking course. Partly-concealed attic
dormer, side stacks.
First floor has continuous balcony with
elongated-figure-of-eight balustrade, replaced above porch.
Frieze, cornice and blocking course is continuous with that to
No.9 (qv).
INTERIOR: retains original joinery and plasterwork including
inner hall with dentil cornice and staircase with stick
balusters.
SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: lancet area railings.
HISTORICAL NOTE: Dale Street was laid out c1832, the east side
was built by 1834.
