Two houses, now flats with attached railings. Numbered right
to left, described left to right. 1828-1834, with later
additions and alterations including late C20 attic to right.
Pinkish-brown brick with painted stucco to front facades,
Welsh slate roof to left, otherwise concealed, and with
cast-iron railings.
EXTERIOR: 3 storeys with attic and basement, 4 first-floor
windows. Stucco detailing includes horizontal rustication to
ground floor, continuous first-floor band interrupted by
windows surmounted by 4 Ionic pilasters to first floor: 2 to
ends and central pair.
First floor: full-height windows, those 2 to left are 8-pane
French windows with divided overlights; those 2 to right are
tall 6/6 sashes with blind boxes, plain reveals. Frieze,
cornice.
Second floor: 8/8 sashes, sills, plain reveals. Low parapet,
copings.
Ground floor: steps to entrances to left, part-glazed doors
with overlights with glazing bars, in plain reveals. Doorcases
have pilaster strips, frieze, cornice.
To each a canted bay window, the centre a 2/2 sash with 1/1
sashes to sides, frieze and cornice, that to left with
fielded-panel aprons.
Attics: roof lights to left, otherwise continuous 2-window
dormer.
Basement: to left a glazed door between multi-pane casement
and 4/8 sash; to right a glazed door between multi-pane
casements. Side stacks. To left a continuous first-floor
balcony with heart-and-anthemion-motif. To right, individual
balconies with double-heart-and-anthemion motif.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: area railings and to sides of steps with
gates have bars with lozenge finials, end posts surmounted by
anthemions.
HISTORICAL NOTE: Grove Street was laid out in 1828, the west

side and lower part of the east side were built by 1834.
Nos 14-46 (even) Grove Street (qv) and No.5 Regent Street form
an architectural group.
