Terrace of 6 houses, now shops with flats over. c1820-1830
with later additions and alterations including c1900 shop
front to right, otherwise mid-late C20 ground-floor shop
fronts. Reddish-brown brick with stucco facades, unpainted to
two to right, otherwise painted, Welsh slate roof to right,
otherwise concealed.
EXTERIOR: 3 storeys with attics to gables; gables to left and
to No.31. 12 first-floor windows, 2 per house. First floor:
six tall 6/9 sashes mainly with horns, 2 plate-glass French
windows with overlights, four tall 6/6 sashes, all in plain
reveals. Second floor: two 2/2 sashes, four 6/6 sashes, 2 C20
windows, four 6/6 sashes, all with sills and in plain reveals.
Ground floor: Nos 25-33 Regent Street retain original side
entrances in addition to entrances in shop fronts, these have
steps to 2-, 3-, 4-, and 6-panel doors with overlights, that
to right in pilastered surround. Otherwise glazed entrances in
glazed shop fronts, that to right (No.33) has Art Nouveau
glazing bars to shop front.
Tall end stacks with cornices. Attics have casement windows,
to left gable there are 3 round-headed lancets. Left return
has five 6/6 sashes and blind opening in plain reveals with
tooled architraves and with sills.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
HISTORICAL NOTE: Regent Street, originally known as Cross
Street, was laid out c1808-1814.
