House, now shop with storage over. c1814-1836 with later
additions and alterations including shop front. Reddish-brown
brick with painted stucco facades and cast-iron balcony.
EXTERIOR: 3 storeys with attic, 3 first-floor windows. First
floor: blind opening and two 6/6 sashes; second floor, blind
opening and two 3/6 sashes, all in plain reveals. Cornice, low
parapet.
Ground floor: plinth, central entrance a part-glazed door with
basket-arched overlight with panelled reveals and frieze. To
left a double entrance, part-glazed doors, now blocked, with
overlight with glazing bars. Seven tall basket-arched windows,
frieze, dentil cornice.
Left facade: first floor has 8-pane French window with
margin-lights and divided overlight; second floor has 3/6
sash. Ground floor has projecting shop front with irregular
glazing. Half-hipped roof, right end stack.
To left facade, first floor a balcony with oval motif.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
HISTORICAL NOTE: Regent Street, first known as Cross Street,
was laid out c1808-1814. The first houses in a terrace
development date from 1814.
Occupies a corner site with Portland Street and forms an
architectural group with No.18 Regent Street and Nos 22-38
(even) Portland Street (qqv).
