Description

BRIGHTON

TQ3103NW LITTLE EAST STREET
577-1/46/391 (South side)
No.8

II

House, now bookshop. Late C18 or early C19. Stucco, scored to
imitate ashlaring, over flints. Roof of tile.
3 storeys and dormers over basement. 3-window range.
Flat-arched entrance in second-window range, which range is
not in the centre of the elevation, an asymmetry explained by
the fact that the lower floors of the house are hidden by No.6
(qv), the long axis of which is perpendicular to that of No.8.
Stair hall with original stair opposite the front door. There
is a storey band between the first and second floors and a
broad entablature band topped by parapet to the second floor.
Single catslide dormer in the centre of the roof. One window
in gable on return. Stacks to centre of each end wall.
