House, now outbuilding. C16/C17 with C19 end stack and
alterations. Timber-frame with brick infill on stone plinth;
steeply pitched fish-scale tile roof with brick end stack with
clustered shafts. 3-unit plan.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys; 3-window range. Entrances to rear. Ground
floor has 2 windows, one with small-paned casement and a small
wood-framed window, both with bracketed canopies; first floor
has 5-light wood-mullioned window with leaded glazing and
crown glass and 2 windows with 2-light leaded glazing with
iron opening casements and crown glass. 4-bay frame with
narrow bay to left end and wide bay next to it; 3-panel-high
framing with heavy upper rail; bracing to first floor.
Brick addition to left return; right return has 4-panel-high
framing and tie beam and collar truss exposed to gable head.
Rear has several entrances.
INTERIOR: not inspected, but believed to have a smoke-bay.
Reputed to have been owned by Richard Shakespeare, and to have
been the birthplace of William Shakespeare's father and uncle.
