Barn range. In 2 stages of build, probably late C16 with
additional range to north early/mid C18, with later
alterations including early C20 encasing to original range.
Timber-framed with brick and render casing with renewed tile
and reddish-brown brick with asbestos roof.
EXTERIOR: original range of 3 bays with aisle to south gable,
evidently part of a longer range, now partly converted, with
3-bay range to north. Original range: some close-studding
visible to upper floor. Ground floor has 4 garage doors and
part-glazed door, to upper floor a pitching door and 2 small
casement windows.
Range to north has 2 elliptically-arched stable entrances, one
blocked, with casement window in segmental-headed opening to
right; upper stage has 2 pitching doors.
INTERIOR: the upper floor is an intact close-studded,
timber-framed 3-bay barn with aisle to south gable and has 3
collar-and-tie beam roof trusses with queen struts. This is
evidently part of a much longer range that extends for at
least another 3 bays to south, now converted to dwelling.
North range: 2 collar-and-tie-beam trusses with angle struts.
The original range of buildings must relate to the earlier
building complex on the site of which the Dovecote (qv)
remains. It is one of the earliest surviving barns in
Stratford Rural District.
All the listed buildings on the Wootton Hall Estate (Wootton
Park) form a group.
