House and shop, later public house, now flats. C16 with C19
extension to right; further alterations 1992. Timber-frame
with plastered or brick infill on rubble plinth; some painted
brick; painted brick addition to right; renewed tile roof with
brick end stack to rear of ridge and massive brick stack to
front of ridge. 3-unit plan.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys; 4-window range. Part to right of centre
breaks forward. Altered entrance to left end has late C20 door
and frame; altered entrance to forward break (No.257),
segmental-headed, as is entrance to right end (No.259), which
has plank door in pegged frame. Ground floor has 2 canted bay
windows with small-paned glazing joined by pentice; addition
to right end has segmental-headed window with 2-light
small-paned casement. First floor has 4 windows with 2-light
small-paned casements, the 2 to addition with iron opening
casements and hanging catches.
Right return has segmental-headed window with 3-light
small-paned casement with iron opening casement to each floor.
Close-studded framing to ground floor left half and first
floor; rear wing has exposed close-studded framing, partly
renewed, with brick infill; extensively rebuilt lower range.
