The Old Post Office
GV II
House, formerly Post Office. C17 with C18 alterations and
early C20 addition. Brick with some timber-frame; thatch roof
with plastered brick end stacks. 2-unit plan with
single-storey addition to right return.
EXTERIOR: single storey with attic; 3-window range. Central
entrance has gabled brick porch with C20 panelled door.
Segmental-headed window to left and window to right with tile
sill and timber lintel, both with 2-light small-paned
casements; attic has 3 eyebrow dormers forming continuous
element, 2-light small-paned casements with iron opening
casements.
Right return has external stack rising through outshut with
thin scantlings and hipped thatch roof; left end has
projecting porch with plank door with one strap hinge, side
light and return 2-light small-paned casement.
Left return has partly stone wall with brick clasping buttress
and offset brick projection below stack. Rear has lean-to
outshut to probably a timber-framed wall.
