ASHFORD CARBONELL

SO5270 Barn approximately 3 metres north of
482-1/15/52 Plowsters

GV II

Threshing barn and cider mill with domestic accommodation
over, now outbuildings used for storage. C17 with C18
rebuilding. Timber-framed, clad with weatherboard and some
brick and render infill, set on stone rubble plinth. Slate
roof on raised and partly overhanging eaves. Plan consists of
6 continuous framed bays incorporating 3-bay barn, 2 bays of
which were widened in C18, and 2-bay former house, with C19
link bay.
EXTERIOR: barn with central carriage entrance with C20 boarded
double doors. Weatherboard set on square framing with tension
braces and some cleft wattle infill. Link bay with garage
doors. Former house: boarded doors and 2-light casement in
gable end.
INTERIOR: barn with 3 twin raking-strut trusses and single
purlin roof. C17 bay with jowled posts, cambered tie beams,
straight wind braces, partly remodelled during C18 rebuilding.
Former house: 3 altered twin vertical-strut trusses with
single trenched purlin roof. C17 floor in end bay. On ground
floor, complete cider press in one bay and cider mill in the
other.
