Farmhouse, now house. Probably early C18; altered, and
undergoing renovation at time of inspection (September 1994).
Roughly coursed mixed rubble with quoins, stone slate roof.
L-plan formed by single-depth 2-unit main range on north-south
axis, facing east, with rear wing to right-hand half and
stair-turret in rear angle. Gable to road.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys, 5 windows, symmetrical; with a plinth, a
stone slate drip-course over the ground floor, a gabled porch
in the centre (now with a concrete lintel), and unusually
regular fenestration for this area: rectangular cross-windows
on both floors, all with stone slate sills and monolith
lintels, and all recently furnished with double glazing.
Corbelled chimneys at both gables, that at the north end
corbelled from a lower level. North return wall (including
side of wing) has 1:2 windows on each floor. Rear: full-height
stair-turret under carried-down roof, with mid-level
stair-window; tall lean-to porch abutting left side of this;
one window on each floor to left.
INTERIOR: front range has former housepart to right, with 2
lateral beams (one renewed) and renewed joists; former parlour
to left with 2 axial beams keyed for plaster. Rear wing
contains good early-to-mid C18 dog-legged staircase (recently
restored) with closed string, rectangular newels, turned
balusters and moulded handrail, the balustrade carried round
the landing; and kitchen with large lateral beam.
Forms group with barn to west (qv).
