Small town house, now cafe. Probably earlier C18, and later;
altered as shop in C19. Painted brick in Flemish bond (1st
floor), slate roof. 2-unit plan with back extension.
2 low storeys, 2 windows, with a moulded wooden eaves cornice.
The ground floor has large C19 shop windows of 3 and 2 arched
lights and a recessed entrance to the right with panelled side
wall, framed by central and terminal pilasters which have
raised round-headed panels, and very elaborate consoles
enriched with scallops, garlands carrying a prominent
modillioned cornice with ball finials at the ends. The upper
floor has horned sashed windows, that to the right with
stained glass. Mounted on the front slope of the roof is a
large full-width signboard with painted lettering "AD POOLES
1847".
INTERIOR: woodwork in simple early Mackintosh manner. Forms
group with No.52 (Victoria Hotel (qv)) adjoining to the right.
