Baptist church. Dated 'Ebenezer/1834' on parapet; restored and
re-ordered 1975-6. Colourwashed render; gabled slate roof.
STYLE: Italianate.
PLAN: simple rectangular preaching space.
EXTERIOR: 2-storey; 3-window range. Symmetrical west front of
3 sections, the centre recessed, with plinth, Doric end
pilasters, projecting cornice, blind parapet. Round-headed
15/15 sashes in plain reveals with sills. Central doorcase
with fluted Doric pilasters, projecting cornice and 6-panel
2-leaf doors. C20 extensions to east and south-west corner.
INTERIOR: galleries on all sides except east supported by
slender cast-iron columns and with cast-iron floral panels to
frontages; original pews survive in the galleries.
HISTORICAL NOTE: the present building replaced a church of
1807.
FURTHER INFORMATION: the building is set back from the road
with a paved courtyard in front.
