848-1/4/341 Lower Withleigh Farmhouse

GV II

Farmhouse. C16 or C17, re-roofed in the C18 or C19. Rendered
cob to lower end, rebuilt at some time with rubble at the
higher end; dry slate roof; rubble end stack on the right;
brick lateral stack to rear centre. 3-room plan with central
hall; C17 wing at right angles to rear of hall; C20 lean-to in
rear angle between wing and higher end and extended with
single-storey wing at lower end.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys; 4-window range. Late C19 horned sashes
except for 2-light casement to ground-floor left, all in
probable original openings. Gabled porch central to
fenestration and with panelled door within on the right;
another doorway with split ledged door towards the left. Rear
has mostly 2-light casements.
INTERIOR: has C17 fireplace with oven to rear of hall, and
axial beam, and there are 2 crossbeams to lower end room, one
of them embedded in the wall at the left-hand end; C18 or C19
tie-beam roof structure with some of the tie beams now
replaced with collars.
