Pair of semi-detached villas, now flats with attached area railings to left. 1826-7 for E and E Wallace; in use as a school in 1835. Stucco over brick with concealed roof, stucco party-wall stack and iron area railings. EXTERIOR: 2 storeys on basement and with attic to centre part, 1:3:1 first-floor windows and with blind 2-storey range set back at left. Outer bays break forwards. Stucco detailing includes 4 Doric pilasters through ground and first floors to 3-window range, to ends and between windows, surmounted by frieze, full-height pilasters to ends of breakforwards, and with continuous cornice over first floor. Further outer pilasters and crowning cornice with blocking course with copings to attic. First floor has 10-pane French windows where original, those 3 to centre part have overlights with lattice glazing bars. Ground floor has similar French window with lattice glazing bars to overlight at left, otherwise replacement sashes. Attic has 2/2 horizontal-pane sashes. Basement has C20 windows. All windows in plain reveals and with copings. Entrances to breakforwards: projecting porches have paired Doric pillars with low parapet and copings; within are flights of steps, spreading and roll-edged to left, to 4-panel part-glazed doors and overlights. Further entrance to set-back range at far left has C20 door. INTERIOR: not inspected. SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: area railings to left have embellished rods. HISTORICAL NOTE: built as part of the development of this area for Joseph Pitt in 1825-42, the general layout being designed by the architect John Forbes. All the listed buildings in Wellington Square form a good group, laid out around a central grassed area. (Blake S: Pittville: 1824-1860: Cheltenham: 1988-: 65).
