Pair of semi-detached houses. Numbered right to left,
described left to right. c1840's, with later additions and
alterations. Stucco over brick with hipped slate roof
concealed behind parapet; party wall stacks, 1 stucco, 1
brick, to front and rear roof slope each with oversailing
detail and pots.
One room wide, double-depth plan. Symmetrical facade with
entrances at left and right, 2 storeys on basement, four
first-floor windows. Stucco detailing includes plain
architraves to windows, ground-floor sills, first-floor sill
band, pilasters and entablature to right entrance. First-floor
has 1/1 sashes. 2 windows to ground-floor, 3-light mullion and
transom, single horizontal glazing bar; all in plain reveals.
Louvred shutters to windows of left house. eplacement door and
fanlight glazing to left house; 4-panel door to right house,
bottom panels flush-beaded, upper panels raised and fielded
with bolection moulding; plain fanlight. Rear elevation
fenestration includes 6/6 sashes.
INTERIORS: noted as retaining original details including
panelled doors and shutters (vertical sliding to
ground-floor), architraves and skirtings, plaster cornices,
staircase with stick balusters and swept handrail terminating
in carved foot forming newel post to ground-floor.
SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: low brick garden walls with half-round
copings surmounted by vertical wrought-iron railings, matching
gates; diamond-pattern incised blue-brick paved pedestrian
access along length of Terrace.
Nos. 1-8 Field Terrace from a good group of mid C19 terraced
houses.
