Right-hand house (now sub-divided into two) of adjoining
properties. c1780-1820 with later additions and alterations.
Red-brown brick, tuck pointed; stone dressings. Hipped plain
clay tile roofs, dentilled eaves; ridge stacks with
oversailing detail and pots. Timber doorcase.
PLAN: Single-depth with central entrance and staircase. Rooms
to left of building (now separate accommodation, No.28A)
offset towards street with entrance in right-return of break
forward. 3-storeys and basement. 3 first-floor windows. Stone
details include sills and moulded-cap keystones to window
heads. Windows are mainly 8/8 sashes; central window to
landing is 6/6; second-floor are 4/4; all in near lush-frames
with flat gauged brick arches. 2 steps to main entrance at
centre right; 6-panel door, bottom pair flush-beaded, top pair
glazed; doorcase with pilasters and dentilled pediment. Door
to left (to 28A) in flank wall is 5-panel, bottom pair and
centre flush double-beaded, upper panels glazed. Fenestration
to left rear is similar to main facade but with segmental
arches, no sills.
